Power Dressing at Work

There is no denying that times have changed, women have come a long way since rattling those pots and pans and wearing cute little frilly aprons. Women are a power and force to be reckoned with when it comes to the corporate world. There are more female CEO’s and business owners than ever before and more women working than any other time in history.  This feminism stuff really works, right?

The one thing that can be identified with all these fabulous changes is the way in which women have had to compete in the male dominated world.  In order to be contenders and taken seriously women have become a lot like men, denying their sacred birth right to womanliness – competitive cut throat work practices, long extended hours (regardless of family obligations), dressing in dark power suits and over achieving with greed and ‘success at all cost’ mentality.  This is not the way real women work; it goes against our primal nature and causes long term damage to your health and emotional wellness.

Most work cultures adopt the three ‘T’ rules (unofficially); thank you to one of my friends for sharing this… No Tits, No Toes and No Thighs!

This means conservative work wear that reveals very little femininity and womanliness. I understand that a revealing cleavage and short skirts can be a distraction and inappropriate and wearing strappy sandals may be a workplace hazard but this does not mean women have to dress like men in order to be effective and productive. There is a point of which a woman can be distinctly different yet still contenders in the seriousness of the business world. Androgyny no longer has a place in the new wave of feminism that is upon us. Beauty, softness and feminine power has it’s time to shine, it’s now! Watch us blossom!

What can you do to shift out of masculine fashion and workplace culture and ignite your femininity at work?

Here are 5 tips to Feminine Power Dressing

• Ditch the black, grey and navy suits and add colour. The more you break out of this dreary male mould and excel powerfully with a coloured suit, the more the message we send is clear – I am powerful when I look like a woman and I’m still more than capable of meeting KPI’s and addressing the board of Directors!
• Wear sexy knickers every day. Ditch the comfy options and go for some sexy comfy options. Never underestimate the power of sexy underwear. When you have the soft sensation of silken lace against your body you can’t help but feel sexy, powerful and feminine!
• Dare to wear red or lipstick (if you don’t already)… go light on all other makeup except mascara and a bright red lipstick. It can be high maintenance so take your lip liner with you but the results are incredibly worth it. Red lips spell power and confidence. Well applied makeup that is appropriate for the workplace can only add to your professional image.
• Get rid of slacks and pants and trade up for a well-tailored dress. There are so many options for corporate looking dresses these days and they aren’t all black and grey. Dare to do it a little different, add colour, pearls, spike heels and you are a picture of elegance yet professionalism.
• Accessorize with elaborate and stylish necklaces, earrings, stockings, bracelets, scarves, brooches, shoes glorious shoes…. With so many options available, there is nothing quite as gorgeous as a well accessorized woman. Set the precedent in your office that it’s ok to be fashionable, feminine and fabulous… Then set about exceeding expectations!

When you step out of your comfort zone, as a leader, you also give permission for other women to do the same and before you know it, you have long term change in your workplace of what is expected when it comes to women’s professional attire… The ripple effect will be astounding…

Why is change important?

Because we are not men – obvious I know but for so long women have been acting and competing and dressing like men and part of the problem we face as women is not owning our differences – that of being feminine.  We have an enormous amount of strength and power at our finger tips which is being denied and rejected for fear of not being taken seriously and it has to stop.

Too many women are dealing with the effects of burnout and the ever increasing list of emotional and physical ailments that come with over work and denial.  Taking ownership of your femininity by way of dressing more femininely is just one small step to changing century old traditions of patriarchal domination. This months Bliss Tip is easy, no matter where you are in the world, what season it is, there is always a good time to spring clean, start fresh, rejuvenate your home and therefore your heart and mind. When there is order in your home, there is clarity of mind. When life is free of chaos, so are your thoughts… Is there an area of your home that could use your time and energy to clean and clear? How is that effecting your mind, thoughts and energy?

Here are some ideas to get you going… Plant a garden of herbs or seasonal flowers, weed an existing garden, trim the hedge, cook a lavish meal and enjoy a dinner party, redecorate a room, clean our your draws and wardrobe, clear the pantry, linen cupboard or shoe closet. Re-arrange the garage or shed, move furniture, throw out rubbish, old stuff and broken things laying around …. And most of all, have fun clearing the way for new and exciting things. Namaste.

Something’s Missing…

All is not what it seems in the world of working business women; they’ve got what appears to be everything they have ever wanted but deep within there is a earning for something they cannot quite identify. It chips away at you while you sleep and lingers in the recesses of your mind during your busy days. When with your partner and children the void is not so deep but it still lurks…

The question you find yourself asking is how can anything be wrong? I mean, I love my husband, my kids are doing well in private school, my career is blossoming, I have a luxury car and a beautiful home, wonderful friends and family… But still I am left with this feeling of earning…

If life is so perfect, business is so successful, family life is so good, how can you be left with this feeling of emptiness?

In all the years I have been coaching, I’ve discovered this is a regular occurrence with women who are embedded into their careers and business.  I’m not saying this is a bad thing as there is so much to gain from contribution to your family and feeling validated by your career success is an integral part of building confidence and self-esteem, not to mention personal satisfaction.

However, I wonder why women who seem to have it all still are left with feelings of uncertainly and emptiness?

Living a façade of happiness eventually takes its toll on these beautiful women and what are unleashed are a world of hurt, confusion and need for understanding.

My research in coaching and working with business women over the past few years has indicated that women are quite simply disconnected from themselves and their primal

How many women are struggling with their relationships at the hands of their career and the disconnect that comes from corporate life? Is that really as ‘fulfilling’ as women make it out to be?

And what are the real consequences for not listening to your internal watch dog that is screaming for attention and leaving you with that earning feeling?

So with an inquiring mind, I set out to discover exactly what it is that is missing from women’s lives. What is the yearning that leaves a woman feeling empty inside? I am going to share what I have discovered and how being plugged into the Matrix, is not all it’s cracked up to be…

It’s quite simple, most women’s earnings come from a deep primal desire to re-join the tribe and feel connected. Most importantly, this feeling of connection needs to start with you.  This means a deep feeling of knowing who you are as a woman, recognising your strength and source of power comes from being a woman first and foremost and includes feeling a deep sense of love for YOU and your femininity.

Awakening your womanliness can be the most rewarding path to experiencing complete fulfillment…

Once upon a time, before the onset of patriarchal domination women had this connection I speak of, working within a tribe, raising children, healing and teaching. Women were revered for their life force energy, their ability to bring life into the world and the wisdom that came with connection.  Nowadays, most people forget that we are animals, a species of the planet and are satiated only by material possessions and the obtainment of such.

Are those who seek such possessions and success really in denial of what may be considered primal urges, the need to have connection and love? Are they in denial that they are indeed animals on the planet and have a unique connection with this thing called life? How can we as a species forget what is real and fulfilling in life and pursue such meaningless validation?

How we have as wise women have come to this juncture in life is another story, for me, my pursuit is for the women who find themselves on the treadmill of life and are willing to DO something about it.

10 Secrets to Self-Management and Greater Success

There is much to say about women in business, women at the top, top CEO’s, women on the board, female business owners… According to some statistics, female business owners are increasing at a rate of about 70% compared to male new business owners. Why? Flexibility is a premium commodity when most women are still doing the majority of the home management – she is raising a family, keeping house, doing the school run and preparing meals and cleaning the home too.  So, owning your own business provides the flexibility she needs to also spend valuable time with family and manage the home ensuring all needs are met… But are women taking care of their own needs?

Many companies provide assistance for women in business and working women, with more and more focused product and services that make women’s lives easier faster and more efficient.

However, are women willing to make the time to do what is takes to make their lives easier?

Are women really willing to put themselves first?

Do they want to grow their business before they take care of themselves?

Recently I ran a Goddess Retreat, that is what I have been doing for 3 years now and when launching a social media event inviting many of my contacts, the feedback was “I am too busy in my business right now”, “I have all my funds tied up in my business at the moment” , “I couldn’t get away for a weekend, there is too much going on”…

I was shocked to discover how little women actually put themselves first, they would rather spend money on their business then spend it on their own development. They would prefer to grow their business than grow themselves and there is no consideration in the budget for self development. So how does your business expand beyond its current status if you are not expanding?

Putting business first is a crazy notion that opens women to a world of burnout, overwhelm, chronic conditions, stress and many other related problems and a potential a stale business that is not evolving.

If you are not investing in your personal development and expansion, how can you expect your business to grow and expand?

As a woman, if you are not refilling your energy tank, how can you have enough energy for everything and everyone else?

If you are not valuing you as the most important person in the world, then how can anyone else value you in the same way?

A Business is an organic entity that grows with you. I’ve found the more I evolve and expand my thinking and life experience and the clearer I am of the past, the more I invest into my own development and explore wider possibilities for myself, the more my business grows with me and the more money I make. Ultimately, the freer I am, the less stressed and happier I become.

The same is true in the case of being employed – the more you develop new ways of being an incredible woman and leader, the more possibilities you are creating in your workplace and life.

What I know is true is this; the more I learn and discover about self management, the more I ‘fuel up on life skills and tools’, the less troubled I am by stress and fatigue related challenges and obstacles. Life in general becomes happier, easier and more successful. Balance Reigns!

If you have never been taught, how do you give to yourself first when it’s never been a priority?

How do you self-manage more efficiently so you can enjoy more quality time with loved ones and experience greater success?

Here are 10 secrets I would like to share;

1)      Decide where in your life would like to develop or change the most and what skills you would like more of. Where is the most pain right now? IE personal relationships, career, health and decide to do something about it

2)      Research what courses, workshops and Retreats are available, ask for referrals from friends.

3)      Schedule Time for your personal development into your yearly schedule.

4)      Make allowances in your budget for your personal growth, ensuring then that your business or career will also evolve

5)      Set up implementation time in your weekly schedule and priorities time for you to replenish your energy and reset your focus for the week to come. At least 2 hours a week should be yours only.

6)      Delegate tasks where possible to staff, outsourcing companies, family and friends and remember to ask for help.

7)      Be open minded that there is always something more to learn, more of life to experience and when you are not learning and growing you are slowly withering away…

8)      Seek professional advise if you have troubling or reoccurring challenges  you need assistance with. Sometimes one on one guidance is the best way to start – Get a coach.

9)      Maintain a healthy, energetic body, drink lots of water and allow for plenty of rest

10)  Get excited because prioritising you means that others get to see the best of you also. When you put your needs first, the world around you changes and you are freer to assist others. Remember to celebrate your decision to be your BEST!

At yoga recently my teacher shared one statement that is profoundly etched into my psyche, he says “Let there be no rejection in the reflection”!…  In a room filled with mirrors, sweating in the 38 degree temperatures, this isnt’ easy – redfaced, sweaty, droopy hair, scantilly clothed and in a room full of other men and women… BUT I get it, I love me, I cherish me, I listen to my needs, I care for my soul, I nurture my emotions and I have as much fun as I can loving me…
